104 New King Scouts Honoured in Annual King Scouts Presentation Award Ceremony

Five Recipients for Presidential Excellence Award & 104 New King Scouts Honoured

KAMPONG PANGKALAN BADAK: Five top civil servants were honoured by the Malaysian Scouts Council of Melaka in the its annual King Scouts Presentation Award ceremony held at the Tan Chay Yan Scouts' Camp at Kampong Pangkalan Badak in Bukit Katil yesterday morning.

Yang Di Pertua Negeri Melaka, Tun Datuk Seri Utama Mohd Khalil Yaakub presented the Presidential Excellence Award to Melaka State Secretary Datuk Wira Omar Kaseh, the Chief

Scout of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr Hj.Shafie Hj Mohd Salleh, the Melaka Education Department Director, Hj Isa Hj Abu, the Melaka Historic City Council Mayor Yusof Jantan and the Perbadanan Ketua Menteri Melaka General Manager Hj Mohd Zin Mansor.

The above named top civil servants have sacrificed a lot of their valuable time and money to fully support all the scouting activities with top excellent and splendid services. They are fully committed to scouting at all levels.

There were also 104 recipients for the new King Scouts award. Datuk Dr Hj Shafie Hj Mohd Salleh in his capacity as the Chief Scout of Malaysia reminded all the recipients to uphold the true meaning of scouting. He said that it is one of the main dream of all scouts in their scouting career that is to obtain the King Scout Award. Curently there are more than 10,000 registered King Scouts of Malaysia and this figure grows from year to year.

"The fact that the King Scouts'certificates can only be signed by all the rulers and heads of states, is something special and unique to all qualified scouts," said Shafie adding that practically all King Scouts hold dear to such certificates.

Shafie also stressed on the Scout Motto 'Be Prepared" which mliterally means you are always in the state of readiness in mind and body to perform your duty. Be prepared in mind by having disciplined yourself to be obedient to every order and also by having thought out beforehand any accident or situation that might occur so that you know the right thing to do at the right moment and are willing to do it.

Be prepared in body by making yourself strong and active and able to do the right thing at the right moment and do it wisely.

For Daniel Cheong Yeong Khai and Desmond Cheong Khai Yeong, it was indeed a rare occasion for a pair of twin brothers to receive the highest award in scouting. The twins from Melaka High School besides being good in their academic studies, also excelled in scouting. The duo paid tribute to their Group Scoutmaster Peter Suan for all the guidance and assistance and their parents for the solid support behind them.

Another pair of twins from Tun Tuah Secondary School, Tam Jun Hao and Tam Jun Hui also received the highest scouting achievement award. Lim Geok Chin, Lionel Boey Han Zhuen and Yeow E-Jynn from St Francis Institution in receiving the King Scout certificate, thanked their parents and the SFI Group Scoutmaster Yong Keng Kwang for all the encouragement and hard work.

Tun Perak Secondary School from Jasin had the quartet of "Sitis" but not related to each other as recipients. Siti Nur Aishah Ramli, Siti Nur Rashidah Razali, Diti Nurliyana Mazlan and siti Wanis Mohd Ali were all on cloud nine after receiving the prestigous award from Mohd Khalil Yaakub.

Also present at the meaningful ceremony included the Melaka Scouts Council Chairman Datuk Md Sirat Abu, World Organization Scouts Movement Committee Eric Khoo Heng Pheng, Melaka Scouts Commissioner Hj Abdul Kader Md Nor, past and current scouts' leaders, organizing committee. invited guests and parents of the recipients.
